India Everywhere" in Davos
Largest ever Indian participation at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in January 2006

Recognizing the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting from January 25-29, 2006 in Davos, as an opportunity for India to engage with the participants, Confederation of Indian Industry will launch its Project "India Everywhere" in Davos. The participants from India comprise a cross-section of political, social and business leaders who would come together to deliver a single message to the global community- "India - the fastest growing free market democracy". It is for the first time a high powered partnership was formed to represent India at this forum, which includes senior representatives from Government - both from Central and States as well as key business leaders from different sectors. It is the largest delegation, in terms of size and diversity, with over 100 participants from India.

P. Chidambaram, Finance Minister of India; Kamal Nath, Minister of Commerce & Industry; and Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission alongwith Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister, Delhi; Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister, Rajasthan and Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister, Kerala will lead the "Dream Team" from India at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum from 25th to 29th January in Davos. WEF's Annual Meeting in Davos is the most important business event in the world. This includes an advertising campaign to position India as the 'fastest growing free market democracy'. 

The 'India Everywhere' campaign intends to sharpen focus on the unique value proposition India offers to the world by ensuring a continued and sustained presence of India in major global events throughout 2006. Emphasizing the need for such an approach and the relevance of Davos, Y C Deveshwar, President, CII, said, "Every CEO needs to grasp the forces that are shaping the world. And the Davos meet is a quick way of engaging with the world community and all its diversities. You can bring home valuable lessons; it also helps you to benchmark yourself against your peers globally." Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, 'India Everywhere' project, said, "I think that Davos today is widely recognized as the forum for global leaders to exchange ideas. As India becomes increasingly prominent in the global economic context, the World Economic Forum at Davos is the ideal place for us to project ourselves."  Commenting on the marketing strategy of "India Everywhere", Mr. Nilekani stated, "Today, India's appeal stretches from Wall Street to Broadway; from Capitol Hill to Cannes. Policymakers, Economists, Businessmen and Journalists - all are univocal in their opinion - India is everywhere. The prevailing global environment and sentiment towards India presents a unique opportunity to secure disproportionate attention towards India, from the global business and political communities, alike. The time to leverage this opportunity is now." The 'India Everywhere' campaign is built on three pillars: India's vibrant democracy, growing market, and its promise of assured returns for global investors.

Centred on the theme of 'The Creative Imperative', the five-day annual meeting would touch on a diverse range of topics moving from hardcore business issues such as Global Economy, Setting the business agenda, Technology, Branding in emerging markets and Talent to softer issues such as Culture & Religion and Leadership vision. "The emergence of India and China" - the shift of gravity to Asia and the challenges and opportunities for the global community - is one of the sub-themes of the Annual Meetings of the World Economic Forum. Recognizing India as one of the biggest opportunities for most global companies, special sessions such as 'Emergence of China and India'; 'China and India's rising demand for natural resources'; 'Indian-US partnership' and 'India & the world: Scenario to 2025' have been organized for global leaders to get insights on the economic and social drivers of the country.  A major highlight of the campaign is a cultural extravaganza, Grand Soiree, providing the delegates with a unique Indian experience spanning the best in music, cuisine and arts. In addition, 'India Happy Hours' at select hotels across Davos will allow delegates to flavour complimentary Indian food and spirits with an Indian décor every evening. A selection of Indian Contemporary Art would also be exhibited at Davos during the Meet.  Summing up the 'India Everywhere' campaign, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries and Co-Chair of the Annual Meeting, said, "A globalised world needs Davos, a powerful non-hierarchical platform for solving problems by enhancing understanding.
